The showdown is here.

Georgia. Alabama. The top dog against another.

It’s a chance for the Bulldogs to make their statement, one that has been long-awaited since suffering two crushing championship defeats to the Crimson Tide. The game of the year looms, and many will be glued to see who leads the race for an SEC and national championship.

Here’s your first look at Saturday’s game against two undefeated and first-place teams.

No. 3 Georgia (3-0) at No. 2 Alabama (3-0)

Time: 8 p.m. Eastern

Place: Bryant-Denny Stadium (Tuscaloosa, Alabama)

TV: CBS

Top storylines for Crimson Tide vs. Bulldogs

Ending the drought: Georgia has repetitively tried to get the Alabama “monkey” off of its back. It has proven true throughout the Kirby Smart era, too, as the Bulldogs’ head coach has no wins over his former boss. The teams square off for the third time in three years, the other two being Georgia losses in high-leverage championship situations.

Georgia hasn’t beaten Alabama in 13 years and have lost seven-consecutive contests. The win in 2007, however, came on the overtime pass to Mikey Henderson inside Bryant-Denny Stadium. Georgia has won its last two meetings in Tuscaloosa.

After Alabama’s win Saturday over Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin, Nick Saban’s record against former assistants rises to 22-0.

A new test for Stetson Bennett: The story has been fun. Georgia has entrusted Stetson Bennett as starting quarterback and leader of the offense. He’s the two-star former walk-on. He was never supposed to have much of a shot at the role, even leading up to the season opener. Through it all, the small-town kid has shined with much success for the Bulldogs.

But Alabama isn’t just any other opponent.

Bennett had an up-and-down showing against Tennessee, nearly throwing a couple of interceptions. He will have to regroup on the biggest of stages. Under the lights with millions of eyes set on him, can Bennett continue his roll against the nation’s No. 2 team?

A different type of Alabama: Over recent years (well, the last decade-plus), Alabama’s backbone has been its defense. Saban’s groups have shut opponents down and it has led the Crimson Tide to success, much like Georgia does now.

But 2020 has introduced a new brand of Alabama football: a lot of offense. It’s potent. Georgia might not see a more-productive unit all season. Alabama has posted 38, 52 and 63 points in its first three games, respectively.

Alabama football players to watch

RB Najee Harris: Seemingly, Najee Harris has been at Alabama forever. But he’s become one of the nation’s best backs in 2020. Georgia’s defense has been unbelievably solid this season, but Harris will present his own challenge. Through three games, he has 347 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns.

WR Devonta Smith: The 2nd-and-26 moment in the national championship game was only the beginning for Devonta Smith. He hasn’t stopped. Smith has elevated his way to becoming Alabama’s top receiver with 316 yards and two touchdowns.

QB Mac Jones: There’s not much of a chance that Georgia will get beaten by an Alabama backup quarterback in this matchup. At least there shouldn’t be. The Crimson Tide are rolling with Mac Jones, and he’s led a potent offense. Jones has recorded 1,101 yards and eight touchdowns through three games.

LB Dylan Moses: Alabama’s defense doesn’t hold its prototypical mold, Dylan Moses has upheld his reliable status. He has recorded 27 tackles and anchored the unit.

Alabama Crimson Tide Betting Odds & Forecast

2020 Alabama Crimson Tide Schedule

  • Sept. 26 at Missouri
  • Oct. 3 vs. Texas A&M
  • Oct. 10 at Ole Miss
  • Oct. 17 vs. Georgia
  • Oct. 24 at Tennessee
  • Oct. 31 vs. Mississippi State
  • Nov. 14 at LSU
  • Nov. 21 vs. Kentucky
  • Nov. 28 vs. Auburn
  • Dec. 5 at Arkansas

For one, it's tough to see Alabama anything but a double-digit win team every year in general, as they are continually reloading their talent pool with some of the best talent in the country. QB Mac Jones is likely to start the season as the team's starter, but should he slip up in the first month – when Alabama plays Texas A&M and hosts Georgia – a change from Saban could be in the works.

Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is expected to be the starter for the Crimson Tide in Week 1 of the regular season. (AP)

Those two games could be an early stumbling block or two for the Tide relative to their win total action, but early lines have them as at least a touchdown favorite in both of those contests. And then when you look at the rest of the schedule as SEC West play picks up, there still is plenty to like about Alabama's prospects of a 10 win campaign 2020.

Alabama Odds to win SEC West in 2020

Alabama Football Gambling Line Michigan

Yes (-200)

With the price tag on Alabama to win their division in the SEC being identical to their win total 'over' price, this may be the better spot for bettors to lay that chalk given that it could give a bit more margin of error. Alabama not getting this title with 11 or more wins is extremely unlikely, but should they go something like 10-2 SU again, as long as the losses came against the “right” opponents (non-conference or even non-division), a “Yes” bet on the SEC West crown would pay off.

Alabama Odds to win SEC Championship

Yes (-143)

The Crimson Tide are the prohibitive favorite in this category as well, and should they claim the SEC West and get to the SEC conference title game – likely against Georgia or Florida based on current prices – Alabama would be likely laying significant chalk there as well.

For one, a potential meeting with Georgia would be a rematch from the earlier game in September, and depending on how that result played out, the predictable narratives should follow. An Alabama blow out win in that first meeting would put them as huge favorites in the rematch and then you've essentially got a -143 ML price in your pocket with this bet on what would be significantly higher at the time.

A potential meeting with Florida would be interesting, but a -143 ML price on the Tide would still likely be considered a huge bargain as well. If you like Alabama's odds of returning to the top of the SEC in 2020, it's really tough to not like getting a piece of this wager on “Yes” now.

Alabama Odds to Make 2020-21 College Football Playoff

Yes (-200) or No (+165)

The national picture has Alabama as the third favorite to be a playoff team again this year, behind Clemson (-670) and Ohio State (-230). No other program is listed with a minus beside their name, so again, future projections on this year's Alabama team are quite high.

And yet, if the Crimson Tide are expected to be that type of good, it seemingly makes much more sense from a betting perspective to lay similar chalk – either -200 or -143 – for them to win the SEC West and/or SEC Championship.

The SEC Champion has made the CFB Playoff every year, so there is a bit of redundancy there, but if that's the case in 2020 again, would you prefer to lay -143 (to win SEC Championship) or -200 to cash a ticket? That's basically what ends up being the question bettors have to ask themselves here when looking at Alabama futures.

Alabama Odds to Win 2020-21 College Football Playoff

Yes (+300)

For those that are high on Alabama's prospects in 2020 and ability to bounce back as a playoff contender, this is the wager that seems to make the most sense. Getting 3-1 on your money for Alabama to go all the way is the better way to play these playoff futures on Alabama if a “yes” approach is the one you are looking to take.

Sure, they'll have to beat two very good teams to get this done whereas that probably won't be the case to just get invited to the playoff, but the odds reflect that, and it's not like you aren't able to question how good a team like say Clemson “really” is after playing their ultra-soft ACC schedule every year.

Alabama Odds for Players to win the 2020 Heisman Trophy

The Crimson Tide currently have six players listed in the Heisman Trophy Odds betting market and three of them are quarterbacks.

(Position, Player, Odds)

  • QB Mac Jones 20/1
  • QB Bryce Young 33/1
  • RB Najee Harris 50/1
  • WR Jaylen Waddle 50/1
  • WR Devonta Smith 80/1
  • QB Taulia Tagovailoa 100/1

Alabama Crimson Tide – Postseason Forecast

Trusting Nick Saban to reload his roster with some of the country's best talent has become commonplace over the years now, and as long as the Tide don't suffer significant/key injuries, a return to the CFB Playoff is rather likely. Where they go from there is up to every bettor, and the different ways to bet on that outcome have already been discussed, but the college football world should expect the Crimson Tide back in the Sugar Bowl as one of the two semi-final contestsFootball.

Alabama Crimson Tide Season Prediction

With everything that's been laid out for the Tide's 2020 projection, an 11-1 SU record does feel like how this season will end up for them. A 10-2 SU record is always a possibility as well, which makes that season win total wager a tough one to strongly consider, but two-loss CFB Playoff teams just don't really exist and that's really where it begins and ends when laying out what Alabama's 2020 season will look like.Winning the SEC West and SEC Championship appear to be the best ways to capitalize on that prediction for the Tide from a betting standpoint, and as of now, those are tickets worthy of putting in pocket.

Crimson Tide 2019 Betting Recap

Based on the extraordinary high standards the Alabama Crimson Tide football team is expected to live up to each year, 2019 was a bit of a “down” year for them. And yet, every other program in the country would sign up for the 10-2 straight up (SU) regular season record and a convincing win over a ranked Michigan program in the Citrus Bowl. But all of that success just wasn't up to par for Nick Saban's program, as it was the first time since the CFB Playoff was created for the 2014-15 season that Alabama was not involved as one of the final four teams.

Injuries to QB Tua Tagovailoa midway through the year really put a wrench in those potential CFB Playoff plans the Tide had in 2019, as a home loss to eventual National Champion LSU was their first defeat of the season. Alabama was still in the thick of the playoff race after that though, but it was a 48-45 loss in the Iron Bowl vs Auburn that officially eliminated them from the playoff picture and sent another class of highly talented football players headed towards the NFL draft.
